Tomás Batista

One of Puerto Rico's most renowned sculptors, Tomás Batista was born and raised in Luquillo. His monumental works honoring Puerto Rican history, culture, and national figures can be found throughout the island, making him one of the country's most influential public artists. Some of his works include: "El Jíbaro Puertorriqueño" Monument in Cayey, Luis A. Ferré Highway, Eugenio María de Hostos in Mayagüez, Nemesio R. Canales in Jayuya, Chuíto el de Cayey in Cayey, Rafael Hernández in Bayamón, among others. In 1991, Luquillo City Hall assigned permanent exhibits for some of Batista works.
